Ewyn often uses his skill at musical performance to earn food and lodging in the settlements he journeys between. He knows a large repertoire of music by heart, and can play the lute adeptly.

At the storytelling competition in the June Alley Inn in the fall of 1154, Ewyn was nearly stumped to tell a story June had never heard, before he sang The Ballad of Nettledown as his entry in the contest.
